The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) hosted Dr. Shakti Butler as part of their Scholarly Voices from the Diaspora series.  In this presentation youth and members of the community were invited to engage with Cracking the Codes in a safe space conducive to creating dialogue.

In response to the presentation, Lovisa Brown, Director of Education at the museum, said,

“On behalf of all of us at MoAD, I would like to extend our profound thanks and gratitude for speaking on Saturday as part of our Scholarly Voices series.  It was such an enlightening, emotional, and educational experience listening to you [Shakti Butler] and viewing Cracking the Codes.  The audience participation was electric, and your energy made everyone feel at ease with a topic difficult to discuss in a public or private forum.  It’s rare to feel validated, pinched and hopeful at the same time.  I appreciated your ability to set the environment and create a safe space to share ones thoughts or not.”
